Doing the dishes with my new rubber gloves.

They were one of several great Christmas gifts from my Youngest sister.

While I hate to change allegiances, this might have to become my new favourite hand cream.

I tried my hand at some product photography.

It was late at night with only fourescent lighting, but it still ended up looking pretty.

Recycling has become a whole lot easier now that a truck comes to pick it up and we don't have to sort.

Can you tell she is very happy about this?

We have had so little snow this winter. Although it is scheduled to come in a few days.

This the first time the girls had to shovel.

It was such a nice warm and sunny day, it was nice to be outside.

I'm not sure when someone did this.

I loved that the figurines are all set in a circle around baby Jesus.

On the 6th when the three kings arrived, they did so by zip lining from

the window sill using the roman blind cord, with help from Middlest.

This was a nice evening.
Dad took Middlest and Eldest to the mall to pick up a birthday gift and
Youngest and I got to spend some time together enjoying a few shows of H2O,
eating popcorn and have a few rounds of Ruckus.
Youngest won every single set. It was a good night.

The girls wanted to try a glitter picture, but we didn't have any glitter.

So instead we used craft sparkles. The pictures didn't turn out the way I had hoped.

But a little cropping sure does makes a difference.

Her hair is Ombre.

I don't care if they dye their hair, since it's not permanent.

The permanent stuff? That I care about.

Chopping away. Youngest is growing up.

She started eating cream cheese just out of the blue.

Decided to try that thing she hated and wouldn't you know it? Is now a cream cheese lover.

The basement is being used. I'll find the girls crafting on the table or studying.

It's working out far better than I ever imagined.

Watching the Russia Sweden Junior Hockey overtime. Dad wasn't even home.

With a little colouring for good measure.

The girls kept calling me to come down because it was so exciting.

She's head over heals in love with the outcome.

I went with The Agronomist to the city for his companies Christmas Party.

This was the night before where we enjoyed a wonderful meal.

This picture was sent to Eldest as I had the day to shop by myself.

I needed help making a few decisions.

Back at home, we started preparing for Christmas. I love our new decorations.

Middlest's bedroom is almost finished painting.

Youngest went to a friends house to bake and brought back some of her creations.

On our way back from the city. We had picked up Eldest from the airport and shopped for the reno.

I have been spending hours and hours on the computer talking with AppleCare.

They are even frustrated with my computer.

Getting ready for school. All the supplies were bought in the afternoon and bags were filled.

A supper at Ichiban Tokyo was enjoyed to mark the last day of summer vacation.

The first day of school was a success. 1st shot is in the morning on their way,

and 2nd is the smiles I saw at the end of the day. It's going to be a good year.

Trying to pack for our long weekend Family get together.

Youngest loves her blue blankie, and last minute, I realized it was in need of a washing.

Of course, I forgot it in the dryer.

So as not to miss our bi-weekly Project Baby photo shoot.

I quickly ran over an hour before leaving for my parent's 45th Anniversary Family weekend.

The first family activity Saturday morning was visiting the city zoo, which was followed by a picnic and afternoon at a nearby indoor waterpark.

Youngest has become an excellent egg cracker! This is the beginning of an crepe recipe.

Every once in awhile the Christmas puzzle comes out and the girls add a few more pieces.

Now that I am working, the camera is not getting out as much. Middlest took this picture of some magnets she made herself.

This is the shot from the plane, on my way to warmer weather in San Diego for my Blue Lily photography workshop.

This is a photo of one of my roomies. Nikki was also my saviour when she welcomed me into her home on my very round about way home. This picture was taken in Raw which creates a much less saturated picture.

Art club continues. The girls loved painting these daffodils.

Youngest wanted something special to wear for Valentine's Day. A little journey to Claire's and this headband fit the bill perfectly.

A special bracelet Youngest received for Christmas is a favourite of hers.

After much practice Youngest was able to blow a really big bubble. The persistence was blogged about here.

I love February simply because of the ruby red grapefruit that arrives at our grocery stores. It is one of my favourites!

2011: Week 6

An evening of lullabies. Youngest loves to sing. She is part of a girls choir and loves everything about it except having to wear tights. This mama understands my sweet ; )

Feb 6

I wanted to see how the light in the bedroom would work for photos. It was cooler than I thought, but I am thrilled with the pictures we got of these two. It's hard to take serious pictures when flopping on the bed is waaay more fun.

Feb 7

I played with some still life's also in the bedroom. Isn't this a fun jewelery stand? And a picture of one of my favourite necklaces, even with the teeth marks around the edge from Youngest.

We tried a few Valentine Crafts to decorate with. The hearts are made from five separate paper hearts. We only made two and left it at that.

Feb 9

For some reason I decided to start baking these around 10:30 p.m.. They were worth it though.

Eldest tried her hand at a Valentine still life photo. With the antiqued photo edit I think it turned out perfectly.

With Dad away for a few nights, we enjoyed a little outing to Costco where we ate supper and did a little browsing.

It was a night of crazy music.

Eldest's soccer team had a team bonding afternoon which resulted in three performances.

The Beatles, Abba, and an Eighties Mash up.

The costumes were a highlight.

Unfortunately I was forbidden from posting any pictures of the performers.

The hoar frost was so beautiful.

The Agronomist kept telling me I should walk down to the the park at the end of our street to take some pictures. And I said... YOU go take a picture.

Have you ever tried taking pictures in -30 celcius weather?

I suspect after two pictures... fingers freeze off.

But he kept on mentioning how beautiful it was...

So instead, I ventured as far as my front window, and this was the result.

We did an impromptu craft, and hung our hearts from the dining room light fixture.

We will make more next year.

It was after this I decided we needed to buy some heart punches, and was happy to find several sizes at Michaels for 40% off!

Yay me!

Feb 1

Youngest had been asking to make mini marshmallow buildings for a very long time.

So I finally bought a big bag and away she went.

No marshmallows were harmed in the making of this craft.

They were however several missing after the project had been completed.

Youngest doesn't have any idea what might have happened.

Their whereabouts are still unknown.

I splurged and bought this fun print from this shop on Etsy.

I'm not sure where I will be displaying it, but I kinda, really, like it.

The Agronomist was gone for three days, so Grandma and Grandpa took pity on us.

This is a shot of their nut bowl.

The girls did a photo shoot. Behind the camera and in front of the camera

This is always my conundrum. Do I choose the artsy pretty photo's, or the one's that represent what we spent our time doing that day.

It was virtues day at school today. Youngest didn't know she would be getting a certificate for always trying her hardest. We were very happy for her.

We spent a few days during Eldest's exam break with The Agronomist while he attended a conference. We had a wonderful little holiday. Well most of the time we did : )

West Edmonton Mall. We were on a mission... a mission with lots of coffee breaks.

A wonderful supper at The Agronomist's sisters. We enjoyed visiting with aunts, uncles and cousins. The food was delicious too. Youngest, Middlest and their little cousin kept busy creating large treasure maps.

The last day, we enjoyed the indoor amusement park. We had a great time.

"Mom, we are boooorrrred, what can we do?" It was after supper and against all of my inner voices, telling me it as too late etc. I said, "who wants to paint?" We had a great evening. The girls were totally engrossed in their creations. I have to remember a messy endeavor is often the most enjoyable.

We went for brunch, and the kids decided to play outside. We have had so much snow in the past week. More than we've seen in several years. I blogged about the strange snow escapades here.

This picture was chosen simply for posterity's sake. There has been a record snowfall in our city in a one day period. And what is even more amazing is that The Agronomist is keeping up with the snow removal. I love him for it.

Rec league soccer. Due to her asthma, Middlest plays goalie. And she does a good job of it too. She's been playing for five years and the girls have a lot of fun.

Eldest took this picture. She was trying out my new lens. This is a look youngest gives us quite often. She just looks at you, as though she is not impressed. But she doesn't even know she's doing it. I can't wait to find out who she will become.

Eldest has been figuring out my new lens. And yes the tree is still up. In fact I am considering starting a new custom and leave it up all year. So there.

A really nice evening spent unbeknownst to me and the other guests, with a friend who turned 40 that evening. Sneaky huh? These tulips were on her kitchen island.

Day

There was a big dump of snow over night. The girls played outside while Dad pulled out the snow blower. It was cold. I was impressed they went outside. This shot was from the front window. I blogged about here.

Night

We enjoyed a belated Birthday supper for The Agronomist. Youngest was sick on his special day and was very upset she couldn't celebrate, so we postponed. It was a really nice supper at The Keg with Grandma and Grandpa.

We bakes Dad some Pistachio Birthday Cupcakes. They were very, very good.

Jan 10

Eldest was working on her last English assignment. The term is almost over and exams will be starting next week. Her favourite spot? On the couch amidst all the family noise.

I baked some cookies with my friend Betty. I then tried my hand at some food photography, and blogged about it here. She doesn't look too sure does she? She ended up eating it, and wanted a second.

This is on the wall beside me as I sit at my computer. It makes me happy. I love the colours.

This was Art Club day. Every Thursday I help with the group after school, even though I have to ask the girls to translate for me. It's a french immersion school.

I needed to get a shot of my new Globe as I will be writing a review for it on my blog. I've started a collection and love how they look. Eldest played around with it in Photoshop and I have it along with other edited photo's here.

Touch Up Tuesday: From So-So To Special

Just before Christmas I went with my youngest and her class for an hour of swimming.
Luckily one cannot don a bathing suit and get in the water when one is also holding a camera.
Taking pictures... fully clothed.
Just the way I like it.

SOOC: straight out of camera

When I took this shot I was still trying to figure out my settings and as you can see it was awfully blurry, and the colour was grayed out.

But there was something about my youngest's face, that made me want to try and fix it up a bit.

And I am so glad I did.

I added it to my Picnik account and played with the sharpness.

I brought up the exposure and boosted it with an action called lomo-ish.

To finish it off I added a slight darkened edge.

First Edit:

I absolutely love this shot now.
There is an ethereal quality about it that just works for me.
I'm so glad I was there to take this picture and...
I did it without having to wear a bathing suit.
Double bonus for me!

Black and White Edit:

And just for fun, a decided to try a little black and white, using my iPhoto program.
I also brought up the shadow, and also the sharpness.
To really bring out her eyes I also darkened the contract slightly.
I still love the photo in colour, but this is nice too.

2011: Week 1

New Years day was spent with Mom, Dad, my Sister and her family. We decided a burger and Sweet Potato fries were a great way to start enjoying the New Year.

We had an impromptu brunch after Mass today with family friends. The girls decided they wanted to do a photo shoot, so they set up a sheet in the living room and we took some shots. It was fun.

We always put up streamers for Jesus' birthday. I love the extra colour in our house.

Jan 4

I love this snowman card Youngest made in Art Class. The perspective of the smaller sled and the larger snowman really impressed me.

After coughing all through the night, we decided Middlest should stay home. Did she cough once throughout the morning? No. So off she went to school for the afternoon.

Nana fell a few days ago, but didn't want to go to the hospital. When Home Care nurses checked on her, they talked her into going. She had a fractured elbow and was admitted after spending a night in emergency.

While Grandpa came over to stay with Eldest, I was able to sneak out for an hour to be with Youngest during her class pool field trip. She was very happy I was able to watch for a while, as was I.

We waited from 10am until 2:30pm to be taken down to surgery. This was Eldest texting her friends, and updating facebook, while I took a picture with my iPhone to send to Dad who was out of town and worried.

We had two concerts. Middlest's first band concert was at 2pm in the afternoon. We quickly rushed off to Eldest's doctor's appointment to see if her tonsillectomy would go through, and then at 6:30pm we attended Youngest's Evening of Poetry. Both girls did very well. It was a busy and rewarding day for all.

This tree ornament was looking particularly pretty with the light through the Christmas tree creating some Holiday Bokeh. It took awhile to get a picture that wasn't blurry because it was hanging from my finger. I'm glad I persevered. I really like the effect.

Driving home, I had to wait for the lights. My camera was sitting beside me so I decided to take a shot. After having some fun with editing, this is what I ended up with. I really do need to get my windsheild fixed. The crack is right at eye level.

Youngest had been asking to put up the tree since November 24th. But with birthday parties still in the works we kept putting her off. Finally tonight was the night, but the tree, we realized, was too old. There were some tears as she doesn't like change. We received a call on our cell phone by her to tell us she liked the old tree. But after the new tree was decorated, by herself and middlest, she was very happy with the outcome. We had to promise that the old tree would be put up downstairs. This picture was actually taken by my Eldest. I think it's perfect.

Thank goodness for my iPhone. I love it. It makes my job as a parent so much easier. And yes Eldest has her own phone. It is the way we keep in touch whenever she is away from us. I am very thankful for that little screen.

Middlest had an early birthday sleepover. It just happened to be band day, so all the instruments came along with the girls. We had a five piece band practicing "The Eye of The Tiger" in our basement. I'm sure it will an experience we never have again.

It was a wonderfully warm evening. Mom took the girls up and down the neighbourhood streets along with the two neighbour boys. It was a fun evening.

The Eldest went as a Hippie.

Middlest went with her best friend as a Good/Bad Fairy duo.

And Youngest went as a Gypsy Fortune Teller.

They all created their costumes from old dance recital costumes and clothes from the dress up trunk.

It's always so much more fun to create something rather than buying it pre-made.

These were slightly different than the ones worn trick or treating, except for Gypsy, who looked exactly the same.

We carved pumpkins today. I tried using a smaller fstop with a slower ISO since the lighting was a little low and I wanted a crisper shot than a 1600 ISO would give me, so my daughter is blurred. I like the effect though.

The Agronomist and I drove 5 hrs to the city to watch our eldest play in the final tournament of the year. We are so proud of how well she played. She was able to drive back with us. We did a little shopping and had a few nice meals. It was quick but nice. Grandma and Grandpa ~~spoiled~~ looked after the younger two.

The trees around our house are being stubborn. Despite a couple of freezing frosts they are still holding on. In fact last night was the first snowfall. It had melted by midday, but these guys are ignoring it. They've decided to stick around a little longer.

I don't normally do a lot of decorating for fall or Halloween. It is such a short lived season, it just doesn't seem worth it. But my youngest was noticing other houses and kept asking why we didn't have anything in front of our house. So we went to Micheals and found this scarecrow. I have to admit it really does make our home look a little more welcoming.

Skittle Rice Krispie Squares. My youngest had missed out on a class presentation due to Piano lessons, and the presenter had brought rice krispie treats for the class, with all of these cool candies baked in. She left before they were served, so after the lesson we made some together. Skittles in rice krispie squares are surprisinly good.

I tried a few shots near the window at dusk. There wasn't a lot of light so I used my attached flash with a coffee filter placed over top. It worked like a charm. Would you guess this was a shot that used flash? Or does it look like natural light? I should probably mention that on my Canon Rebel DSLR there is a way to turn down the intensity of the flash. I have it on the lowest setting possible.

The girls brought home a Purdy's chocolate order form for Christmas. They saw the Turkish delights and wanted to know what they were. The Agronomist bought this for them, and we all had a piece. It was surprisingly good. Kind of like a fresh jube jube covered in chocolate.

A delicious meal of peppers, onions, garlic, shrimp and our very own tomatoes. All sauteed in a little canola oil, with lemon juice added at the end placed over a bed of Rotini. It was so good.
